About an hour train ride outside of the city is Tigre, a cute town known for its flowing river and tiny island homes.
Buenos Aires holds a big chunk of my heart. I lived here in 2016 for six sweet months learning Spanish, dancing the tango, and volunteering with a nonprofit . There is good reason why this city is nicknamed “the Paris of South America” as it’s brimming with life, art, and delicious food.
If you’re looking to get off the beaten path, I highly recommend checking out the barrio I lived in during my time here, Once. This neighborhood is often overlooked by tourists, but home to so many traditional South American spots! This traditionally Jewish neighborhood is filled with milongas (tango spots – my favorite is El Beso), tons of Peruvian restaurants (I recommend checking out La Conga), and fileteado, which is a type of decorative street art. Go have an adventure!
COFFEE + EATS + ADULT BEVS
Burger Joint - Located in Palermo and has some of the best burgers in BA. It's always packed, but well worth the wait.
La Galette - Located in Retiro (near the Oblisque), this was my go to lunch spot with delicious crepes and one of the few restaurants with hard cider!
Oui Oui - Located in Palermo, one of the best brunch restaurants in the city AND has mimosas!! If you are in need of typical American food this is for you.
La Ninina - Super hip, super cool. My go to cafe for getting work done. Has an amazing atmosphere and equally great food.
Rey de Copas - ultra trendy bar in Palermo. A great place if you are just looking to grab drinks, but wouldn't suggest as a pregame location.
La Conga – a giant cantina with pisco sours to die for and generous portions that won’t leave you wanting.
Kika & Rosebar – my go to boliches (night clubs) for a night out.
Negro Cueva de Cafe – with a few locations around the city this was my go to coffee spot.
Don’t forget to…
Treat yourself to some Alfajores (two cookies with dulce de leche in between and covered in chocolate) which you can find in just about any cafe or bakery.
And, my personal favorite, Medialunes (small, sweet croissants) which you can get the best from Memo’s, a small local café on the Avenida 9 de Julio.
Grab some mate and sip with friends! Make sure to read up on how to correctly drink this tea so you don’t look like a gringo.

La Catedral – for Tuesday night milonga with a tango lesson and open dancing after.
Salon Canning – for milongas every night of the week except Sunday.
La Bomba de Tiempo – a percussion show that happens every Monday night in Once.
San Telmo Antique Fair – happens every Sunday and feature tons of local artisans.
Teatro Colon – Buenos Aires’ historic opera house! I recommend at least taking a tour if not seeing a show too.
El Ateneo Grand Splendid – an opera house turned beautiful bookstore.
Jardín Botánico Carlos Thays – beautiful botanical gardens!
